Letter Boxed

Letter Boxed is a popular word-linking game where you connect letters arranged around a square frame to form words. The goal isn't just to find valid words, but to strategize how to link them together so that every letter on the board is used.

How to Play Letter Boxed

Connect letters from different sides

In each round, 12 letters are placed around the four sides of a square. When forming a word, two consecutive letters cannot be from the same side of the frame.
Another key rule is that the first letter of the next word must match the last letter of the previous word. Therefore, instead of looking for words in isolation, you need to consider how they can be linked into a sequence.

Use all 12 letters

The objective of Letter Boxed is to use all the letters within a maximum of four words. Finding a valid word is just the first step; you also need to ensure the remaining letters can be connected later.

For example, a board might be solved in just three words:

  • FORGIVEN uses F, O, R, G, I, V, E, and N.
  • NAIL starts with N and adds A and L.
  • LUBE starts with L and uses the remaining U and B.

Together, these three words utilize all 12 letters, allowing you to complete the level in three words instead of the maximum four.

Tips for Solving Letter Boxed

  • Look for long words that utilize many unused letters.
  • Pay attention to the last letter of each word, as it determines the starting letter of the next one.
  • Avoid connecting two consecutive letters located on the same side.
  • Prioritize using letters that are difficult to incorporate into words.
  • Before selecting a word, consider whether it helps you connect to the remaining letters.

What Makes Letter Boxed Fun?

Letter Boxed features relatively simple rules but demands more strategic thinking than a standard word search. You need not only a strong vocabulary but also the ability to plan ahead, ensuring that each word paves the way for the next.

The most satisfying part is finding a short sequence of words that manages to use up every single letter. A puzzle might look daunting at first, but once you find the right opening word, the remaining letters often fall into place quickly.

If you enjoy games that test both your vocabulary and logical reasoning, Letter Boxed is a challenge worth trying. You might also want to explore other word games, such as Quordle Sequence.
