Outspell

Outspell is a word puzzle game based on Scrabble. You and an opponent take turns arranging English words on a board to win points. Each new word must be connected to existing words, and all words created, both horizontally and vertically, must be valid. The basics are simple but getting the perfect placement gets harder and harder as the game proceeds.

How to Play Outspell

Each turn you are given a set of letters to make words on the board. New words must link to existing terms and each intersection must produce a genuine English word. If the combination of letters is not a legitimate word, the move is refused.

Scores are determined by the value of each letter, the number of letters in the word and the bonus squares on the board. If there are no good options, you can trade letters to have greater options for your next turn.

Outspell also has "Word Up," where you type in as many words as you can from a given set of letters before the machine can, along with the classic board game option. Typing speed and vocabulary are crucial in this mode.

Outspell Features

  • Combines classic Scrabble mechanics with an AI opponent.
  • All words formed at intersections must be valid English words.
  • Option to swap letters when stuck in a difficult situation.
  • Two game modes: Outspell and Word Up.
  • Encourages vocabulary expansion and English spelling practice while playing.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use brief sentences to score regularly and keep the game going.
  • Look at the ends of the words you already have for expansion points.
  • Always check newly formed words—both horizontal and vertical—before confirming your move.
  • If your letter set is difficult to use, swap letters instead of forcing a low-scoring move.
  • In Word Up, think of a root word and change the first or last letter to generate multiple consecutive words.

Outspell offers a familiar word-puzzle experience that remains challengingthanks to its word-connecting rules and strategic scoring system. If you are looking to have fun while sharpening your English vocabulary, it is well worth a try. Or, if you are looking to switch to a different kind of challenge, Word Wipe is a great option.
