Phrazle is a word guessing game like Wordle. The main difference is the objective: rather than looking for a single word, you need to figure out a complete sentence. Letters are sprinkled among many words, thus each guess has to be analysed in relation to the complete sentence.
Colours show the position of each letter and if it exists. Grey means the letter is not used in any word in the phrase. Green shows the letter is in the right position. This is important information to help narrow the answer down in future turns. Purple is one of the distinguishing features of Phrazle. There is a purple letter in the sentence, but it is not in the same word or location. Instead of focusing on just one word, players need to think about the full phrase.
There are more options for the guess of a phrase than in a normal Wordle. A letter might be linked to a word at the left, yet occur in a word at the right in another turn. This makes Phrazle a game that needs great memory and reasoning skills. The eliminated letters minimise the number of possible solutions, and the letters that are in the right place provide hints to the other words.
Even a simple sentence can require a lot of twists to solve. When you know some of the letters you have to find out how to arrange them into words that make sense. Sometimes there appear to be several initial solutions that are plausible. A phrase may fit the current hints, however there may be another phrase that is similar in structure. Testing individual letters further reduces the number of wrong choices.
Some guesses aren’t meant to get the answer right away. You can try out several letters at once with a new word. The turn's colour coded results supply the info for the next guess.
This kind of gameplay makes Phrazle more than just a vocabulary game, you have to mix phrase recognition with logical thinking. Sometimes guesses that seem totally unrelated lead to fresh ways of solving the challenge.
