Hurdle Wordle is a spin-off of Wordle where instead of working out one word, you have to complete five consecutive word puzzles. The only variation is the manner of linking the puzzles. The answer to the preceding puzzle becomes the starting word for the next one. So solving a puzzle correctly isn’t the end but the set-up for the next challenge.
Each puzzle requires you to find a five-letter word. After each guess, the tiles provide clues regarding the position of each letter: letters in the correct spot, letters present in the word but misplaced, and letters that do not appear in the answer at all help you narrow down the possibilities.
You have to solve the five puzzles in order. The words you have already found influence your next turns as you play. This makes Hurdle Wordle different from a regular game of Wordle, where you can choose your first word each time.
Once a puzzle is solved, its answer carries over to the next puzzle as the first guess. For instance, if the answer to one puzzle is "STICK," that word appears immediately when you begin the next puzzle. Consequently, letters already verified continue to serve as new clues.
This design means that word selection in later puzzles is not entirely up to you. An answer containing useful letters might help unlock the next puzzle, whereas a difficult word could force you to think harder.
The ultimate challenge lies in the fifth puzzle. The answers for the first four puzzles are automatically filled in the first four rows. You can't alter these words and you must use the hints these words provide to discover the final answer.
The gameboard is at this stage a wall of text that is almost complete. You need to analyze all the information, and work out how to order the rest of the letters.
In the fifth puzzle, the first four rows are already filled in. You only get 2 guesses left to get to the final word. This is the highest pressure stage of the Hurdle Wordle.
Even if it is not the answer, a word such as “BLAME” can help to determine the positions of a number of the letters. These kinds of guesses are significant when you have to check many possibilities very quickly.
Hurdle Wordle, therefore, tests more than just your vocabulary. The game also requires skills in elimination, clue retention, and adapting to words carried over from previous rounds. If you want to try a game with completely different mechanics, you might switch to Wordle Italiano.
