Clues by Sam

Clues by Sam is a daily logic game where you must determine whether 20 characters on a 4x5 grid are guilty or innocent based on provided clues. Each character has a name, a profession, and a specific grid position; your task is to synthesize this information to deduce each person's status.

Key features of Clues by Sam include: a 20-character grid; characters who always tell the truth; clues based on positions and relationships; solutions derived entirely from logic rather than guesswork; and a new puzzle released daily.

Read and combine clues

Each character may provide a clue regarding those around them, the total number of guilty or innocent individuals, their row and column positions, or relationships between multiple characters. A single clue might not be enough to identify a culprit on its own. However, by combining multiple clues, you can eliminate incorrect possibilities and definitively identify each character.

Understand grid positions

The grid is divided into columns A through D and five rows (1 through 5). Terms such as neighbors, connected, above, below, left, and right have specific meanings. For instance, neighbors refers to those surrounding a character, whereas connected indicates individuals adjacent horizontally or vertically (excluding diagonal positions). Accurately understanding these rules is crucial for solving more complex clues.

Identify the guilty and the innocent

No random guessing required

Clues by Sam is designed to be solved through deduction. If you attempt to mark a character based merely on a hunch, the game warns you that the choice cannot be substantiated by current logical deductions. This ensures that every selection is grounded in insights gained from previously deciphered clues. A correct deduction often reveals further information needed to solve the remaining characters.

Keep track of used clues

When a clue is no longer needed, you can dim it to make the rest of the grid easier to follow. Clues often overlap, so marking off information you have already used helps keep the grid readable.

Daily Clues by Sam

A new puzzle is available every day, and the timer only starts once you make your first move. This allows you to read the instructions and examine the grid before the clock begins. Upon completion, the game displays your finish time and the number of incorrect guesses, if any. You can also share your results and return the next day to try a brand-new puzzle. After this puzzle, you can play Scoredle to put your skills to the test.
